nice to see a privateer like shakey Byrne kicking arse at brands on Sunday showing up some of those factory boys again for
those of you not in the know Shayne is a star in many of the videos by fastbikes and is without doubt a talented rider
and as a local kent boy like my self a totally top bloke to boot
trouble is his team Performance house racing have run out of funds and can't do any more rounds after being the top privateer
by a country mile for the first 10 rounds got to be some one out their that can apreciate a real talent with money to put
towards sponsership, it would be a tradgety to see a true british talent go to waste as he is only 23 he could be the brits version
of Rossi

and he deserves the sponsorship. He's worked wonders with that Suzuki.

Not sure about the Brit version of Rossi. Shakey's about 30 isn't he?

Shakey is only 24, and if rumours are to be believed, he could well be swopping camps and riding a gleaming red Virgin mobile yamaha R7. Soon to be vacated by a certain Jamie Robinson, Allegedly. Despite rumours that Jamie Robinson was unsackable. Of coures this is only rumour and specualation.

Well, I am not that bigger fan of shaky. His bike is only just behind that of JC's - and until he beats him all the time i will not be that moved by him.

He is 27! 24, and chris walker is 29, too!

As for Jamie. He promised sponsor and they are not coming - and thus, he is not sackable!!!!

The rumour is that jamie had been offered a GP ride - and if he takes it, and i must state this is only a rumour - Shaky OR Young will be on the virgin bike.....

and don't forget Rob Mac's good mate Lee Jackson

Gents
Shakey lives 4 miles from me met him a few times he is
actually 23 and he is a real talent watch some of the FASTBIKES
vids mach 2, how to pull wheelies 1,2,3 and vid mag 5,
super sport shootout, Shakey is a real talent when he gets a cometative factory bike even the safe zone of the 996 riders
will have to watch out , he should have had rutters and jamie
robinsons ride this year but both the above mentioned came along at the last minute bringing bigger sponsership,
its tragic that someone as gifted as him has no ride
we need they likes of top british talent to come through
shakey will eventually but we do not want him to be 26/27
until this is relised

I find it very hard to believe he is only 23.

But, I think his bike (as all the power outputs etc have shown) is just as good as JC's. On the basis of this, he is not even better than crawford (last years last place man out of the factory bikes) as he is behind him in the championship.

I am not fooled by his bike. They work very hard to make it as good as the others'. It may be a tiny bit behind, but we are not talking enough to pump him up to the Ducatis. Also, its Marty Craggill's machine from 1999, and that is not a million miles away at a start!

Mike Rutter got the ride at Kawasaki cos Ray Stringer Said HE wanted him. Maybe Paul Young could have had it if he didn't get the promise of a ducati ride that didn't pay off. But ray knew Rutter was better than Shaky.

As for Yamaha - I don't think, after speaking to some people after brands, we will see shaky on the virgin bike just yet! But two weeks is a long time in racing.

He is good. and he will become very good. but not as amazing as maybe you think.

AS for him on fast bikes and that, its good, but it doesn't tell about how good he is on a race bike - just that he is a YOB that no sponsor will want to go near.......... not so bright!
20/06/2001 at 13:12
WTF are you talking about???
Shakey is 23/24 and his bike is a privateer, ie no real trick bits or factory support, which Crawford does get and you still don't rate him??
Fact of the matter is "arse" and "talking out of your" springs to mind.
Go suck an egg and learn how to talk/write properly. Your views are starting to irk!!

Interesting to here your opinion weazel however the one thing
i am 100% right about is his age as my wife Knows his mother
and people in the local area that socialize and work for him
and even employed him

As for his ability well only time will tell but i think he will have the edge eventually over the above metioned riders

as for the fastbikes videos whilst i agree they contain elements
of yobbishness, but his skill if you take the time to study these
videos is in my book undeniable

and which ever way you carve it up shakey is not supported by
any thing like a factory operation if anything but the fact that
they have no money to race any more this season should manifest this to you

I think we should continue to debate this through next 12 months Weazel i feel sure i will prove you wrong

Ok, so maybe is is 24, thats not a big issue.

If we are going to go into tech stuff - Steve hislop is getting no support from Ducati Italy, he is on a old machine (like shaky, who is on the factory model from 1999)

Steve's is the GSE of 2000 - and that was the WSB bike of 1999. SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fact is Shaky bike is as good as crawford with all the readings i hear. So, his bike is just as good as the Kawasaki at least and not too far off the Yamaha

privateer or not

And he will get better, i am sure of that, he is only young and learing a superbike, just that i don't believe he has a chance in hell of getting hizzy off his winning role if gets a factory Yam.

I would like to see Young on it myself. and if jamie does go, which i doubt, young is second i believe.

But it would be good to see him on the factory bike, just to see what happens. i think i may be right. if not i will put my hand up and say i am wrong.

Don't jump at me just cos i made a comment about someone for feck sake! this is a forum, not a board of being nice to everyone!

Put those handbags down!

I don't care how old Shakey is. I thought he was about 30 cos the guy on the TV said so the other day and we know they are always reliable.

He's a Bl@@dy good rider though and deserves better than he got. Maybe he's not so good at the negotiating game, talent is certaily not lacking and I'd love to see him on a better bike.

Thought somebody might have commented on the picture of him below, taken at Silverstone after his prang. The other one is not me by the way, one of me mates. He's come back from that pretty damn well. Good on him

I think it would be a real shame if someone with as much talent as Shakey, quite obviously, has to end up unable to race be it because of lack of negotiating skills or money.
I personaly think, being quite a big fan of Fast Bikes, that most people who criticise them so much are doing so mainly out of envy. They have, in my opinion, one of the best jobs in the world.... But they also put quite allot of money and support towards getting young British riders, such as Shakey, on the track. If only there were more people offering support then maybe Britain would do better on the world stage......

i didn't see you helping US when we were trying soooooooo fookin hard to get the junior superstock championship

you won't find anyone who follows junior racing more than me,

i am not saying shaky is poor, jus that his bike is not really a piece of privateer kit - maybe by the rule book, but we all know its not.

not saying he would not do well on a factory bike, but until he starts beating all the fours every race then he is no Chris Walker.
25/06/2001 at 08:21
Listen to you guy's bickering, like a bunch of school kids in the playground. Shane Byrne's bike is most definatley a privateers bike, it is prepared to a good standard, bi=ut in terms of devellopment and money spent is streets behind the factort Suzuki's / Yamaha's. Leave the Ducati's out of this debate as they are far quicker at the moment than anything else, both in BSB an WSB.

Shakey will win the BSB championship within the next 4 years, all he needs is a good factory ride, and I'm sure we will all be cheering him on, and buying Shakey rep lids !!!!!!

The bloke can ride the wheels off of his bike, and is a wasted talent at the moment.

A final comment to all those who don't rate Shakey : F*** Y** !!!

I don't think anyone has said they don't reat him

and as for a full factory ride - i hear motopower are after him for a superbike 2002

and you say there is loads of money behind the yam, kawasaki and suzuki teams...

one set of words

bull shit - gp is the way they go!

Hmmmm.

Performance house fall between two stools in my opinion, as they are neither factory OR privateer.

They don't have masses of cash that some of the factory teams have, that much is obvious from their appeal at Brands, and I don't intend to cover that here.

What they do have is ACCESS.

I'm not saying too much, 'cause I don't want to get my sources into trouble, but I am led to believe that they have access to things that other privateers can't buy. That's as in they aren't allowed to, not can't afford. This like tyres, etc.

This gives them an advantage over the other privateers.

Look at Crockford last year - good rider, but not out of this world. Yet until injuries knackered him he was steaming away with the championship, albeit not as much as Shakey.

I'm showing my historical ignorance here, as I am sure other people must have explored this before, but how about an end of year meeting for riders in BSB/Superstock/Supersport etc and have them on control bikes with control tyres. Must be a good sponsorship opportunity for a manufacturer! It would be interesting to see who would turn up.

i would like to see shakey go to YAMAHA and kick these V-twins out of the way.
