Considering the amount of taxes us motorists get hung-out to dry for!...we should have some of the best roads in Europe. So, as we don't...it must be something to do with GREED & WASTE.!!

It wouldn't be so bad if they did a half decent job of surfacing the roads in the first place. A large street near me was resurfaced last summer. The first frost on the winter and within days it was falling apart. they redid it the exact same way a few weeks ago... and it didnt even have potholes before they surfaced it int he first place last summer. Absolute joke

Here's a solution that was posted on the Visordown Facebook page:

A bridge near me is being resurfaced, the resultant roadworks creating a huge tailback, and am I glad I'm a bike rider.
Why on earth don't the bike manufacturers use video footage from jams like these to advertise the advantage of being on two wheels?
(cut to smiling biker passing a huge line of frustrated, scowling car drivers..) Some reference to sheep would also be appropriate!

As mobus seems to be suggesting, at least around here they like to fill and "top dress" worn out roads. This lasts about 6 months and also makes life much more dangerous for cyclists and bikers, because the first step is to prep the surface, buggering it up, and once "dressed", the road ends up covered in a solid sheet of gravel.

As an added bonus, the cars then drift the gravel into little piles so that when you cross one on any kind of bike you completely lose traction. After 6 months, some of the gravel will be left, but the old, shiny road surface will be re-exposed.

On the plus side, the broken surface resulting from this gives a real MX feel to my commute. Sit up, stick a leg out and wiggle sideways through the corner. But frankly I'd prefer some f*cking shellgrip... you car driving bastards.

idl1975 - that is exactly how I wrote off my XJR last year... Shoody pothole repair, loads of loose gravel - in a BLIND bend... You can guess the outcome?

Why is there at least ONE cage driver every day that seems out to kill me?

Its fine if the councils don't have to money to spare to go around re surfacing all the worn and damaged roads properly, but why is it then that every year around this time (i.e. before April when they get their government allowances) all the councils realise they have a surplus budget left over and if they don't use it they loose it. So they rush out and re surface the first road they come across, never mind that theres nothing wrong with it or that there are roads in a far worse state.

I complained to my council about a large hole in the road outside my house.

They said they will look into it.
