I seriously question the choices here. The BMW's are there due to Charlie and Ewan doing their thing and they are good bikes, the KTM to me is a better bike. If the title of this article was Used adventure bikes, wtf was the TDM, the Buell and the Ducati doing there? Mere nods to off road capability and the Cagiva not much better.

Where was the Africa Twin, The Guzzi Quota, the Transalp the Tenere and Super Tenere? What about the lads who went rtw on small capacity aircooled singles (without the back up ewan and charlie had?) Mondo Enduro and Terra Circa?

Walking in town the other day and I spotted a piece of walking excrement. I pointed it out to the wife. She could not see it. I pointed again but to no avail. I took her right up to it and nearly stepped on it ... oh that she said. No dear, thats a copper.

KTM, Ducati, Cagiva, TDM, BUELL???

Like said before no mention of the Tenere or the Africa Twin.

Who ever compiled this didn't have a clue -  It's total bollocks!!!

And Trimph Tigers - not the latest streetbike but the original traily. You can even split the models RD03, RD04, RD07 and I am sure XTZ750's had more than one model, DR750 anyone?

Yup, it's a bit contentious, but these are bikes listed in the MCIA 'Adventure' category. We'll be donig a Top 10 in the future with the more widely accepted adventure bikes. Ta, Ben

I think more credit is due for the Honda Varadero. Its quality, reliabilty, comfort, value and all round bomb proof and is underestimated in most reviews.
This category of bike is not a beauty paegant, so forget the looks. Agreed, its not the greatest on the loose stuff, but there's a whole lot of adventure out there without that.
Rock on Honda, you did well, but most of them just did'nt get it.

If your talking top used in terms of actual sales and use world wide both military and civilian, sorry I know its not near the cc's but the KLR 650 blows all of these out of the water. All nice bikes though!

What about the Honda Transalp? Are they any good as Adventure bikes?

No Transalp and no Africa Twin? Even if you dont like these bikes they are classics and standard machines for bike travel.

The only 'adventure' in some of the bikes in this list is the trip back from the dealer. Real adventure bikes are either; a. any bike you happen to be riding, b. small modified DR400's or the like, or c. a Honda C90 Postie variant. These are big bore dual sport bikes (DS - odd day off roading, not actual distance mileage) or motorbiking mutton dressed as thrill seeking lamb.
