Bautista (I am usually a fan) seriously needs a multiple race ban for that stunningly stupid move that he pulled.

Bautista made a mistake, they Have all done it so no need to make a fuss, pack up and move on to Germany!

Dude, that was not a mistake and it was not a "racing incident" either, it was total brain out idiocy and the kind of thing that you see from a bunch of 10 year olds learning to race.
The sport is already dangerous enough without antics like that.

Agree with fluke,it was totally stupid. Moto GP isn't a game, someone got killed last year as we all know.He should be banned for the rest of the season. To his credit he didn't try to make excuses when he was interviewed on the TV afterwards and was very apologetic.Thankfully no-one was badly hurt but that's no thanks to him.

He just overcooked it into the corner and lost control, lighten up. If nobody made mistakes the sport would be a lot less interesting to watch and FFS don't start bringing what happened to Sic into it. Would as much fuss have been made if it wasn't the championship leader he took out, of course not....

PommyR6 is right!

his ambition out-weighed his talent?......

I didn't hear anyone shouting to ban Valentino after his very simmilar incident with Stoner.

Moko and Fluke, would you prefer that he received a ban, and we watch all the riders tip toeing around scared of being banned? It wasn't a deliberate manoeuvre.

It didn't seem to me like a brain out, agressive pass. It was just someone who missed their braking marker going into the first corner of the first lap. It has happened before and will happen again.

What I think was much worse was Cortese's overly agressive overtake, and resulting shunt into Danny Kent during Moto3, that warrants a points deduction in my opinion.

While we all have a valid opinion, I will still stand by mine that his move was brain out. How can you miss a braking marker in a pack from the start of a race? He would not have had a valid marker from the start line as he would not be going as fast as if he had done the whole straight, so that point is a non starter. That aside he has a whole stack of riders all around him that were braking - so this should have been a dead giveaway.

However our arguments don't count. He was hauled in front of race direction and been told that he has to start from the bback of the grid in Germany, so looks like they agree that it was stupidity and not a racing incident.

Great point Szmolo, Cortese's shunt into Danny Kent would have been out of order on anyone, never mind your teammate!

Because someone is penalised for something not deemed a racing incident does not make what they did "brain dead" or even "stupid". What Bautista did was something they want to discourage, hence the application of a penalty operating primarily as a deterrent.

It's a fundamental point which seems to be missed by so many commenters, whether they're paying out Sic last year or Josh Brookes in BSB or now Bautista (interestingly enough all RIPPER blokes who we'd like more of in racing). Their intentions are not malicious. If it was found that Bautista DELIBERATELY punted off Lorenzo in order to sabotage his championship effort or to hurt him, then ban him for a long time. But he didn't. What he intended was to go into turn one near the front of the pack after getting a good start off the line. Massive difference. His primary objective to make up position was good and fine - the means he sought to achieve that ends were not. We must be careful that we only discourage the latter and not the former as well.
