Do the Italians realise that they are about to go into economic meltdown? those prices are just completely unrealistic. My bet is Ducati goes bust within 12 months and needs a government bail out. Oh and the bike looks rubbish, must prefer the Aprilia RSV4

Well i reckon the base model is worth every penny of 14,995.......competes with the RSV4 and BMW.......and lets face it the R1 is 13 grand plus (horrendously overpriced)........and the panigale is not a piece of cheap Jap crap........get what u pay for. If the panigale, gixxer thou, R1, blade etc were all parked up next to each other......what will you be drooling over!!!!! Not the Jap bikes thats for sure.

£14,995 is more (much more) than I could afford, but if I were in the market for a brand new bike that's where my money would definitely go. Personally I love the styling.

the original 916 was 14K back in 1995 (and they sold shed loads) so it looks relativelly speaking to be very competitively priced for the base model.

the specials have also been in the 17 - 24k bracket for the last 15yrs and have always had a good following.

personally i've alway favoured ducati's 748/749/848 models as they have revved faster and handle better and been lighter with less engine braking so can't wait to see how the short stoke motor performs in a proper lightweight package at last (ducati roadbikes have always been at least 20kg heavier than the jap stuff)

far from going bust I think they will be back on top with this bike,

I payed £16k for my 2007 1098s with full Termis and alarm and it's been worth every penny, still looks and sounds better than any Jap bike, So £14995 for the latest Ducati master piece is very good value for money and I will be selling the Wife for a 1199s
Ducati will not be going bust they will not be able to make them quick enough for the demand.

Mark Hills must be jealous or blind or both. Take it you are a fan of Aprilia? The new Panigale takes design to a new level, doing almost (but not quite) what the 916 did in the 90's. Makes everything else look dated, particularly the Japanese bikes. This is a shame, as I believe that Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki will all suffer at the hands of Ducati this year, making things even more difficult for them and resulting in even less available money to plough in to development. Ultimately, £15k for this beauty is a bargain at the side of something like a Blade or R1, although I am told that the minimum you will pay for at least the first half of next year will be closer to £16k, due to on the non-ABS version of the base model not being initially available in the UK. Finally, Ducati going bust? I think not.

what a fantastic looking duke , except for the antelope looking mirrors, other than that it looks great , my order already placed with P & H motorcycles Crawley, for the Tricolor roll on March 2012.

Graham, You are so on the money with this bike. If people dont like the bike or simply can not afford it, then they should just stay in the plastic Jap sector.

I have a 998 love and worship it and rest assured I will be ordering a NEW 1199 Panigale s Tricolore asap.

Cant wait!

Ps, I will keep my 998 ;)

Only £15K i'll have two...

Imagine stacking that on a trackday with no insurance...

At that price i'd keep it in bed with me and put the wife in the garage.

Don't get me wrong, this piece of moving artwork actually made me wet it is so fantastically stunning, but come on, 15,000 pounds for a bike? If I bought one it would be an all year round job, why have ABS otherwise?

It is nice and I know a few people here think that it's all well and good slagging off the japs when the italians come up with something like this, but this is the first duke with shell bearings? Come on Italy, japan have been using them since cavemen walked the planet. And cam chains? Isn't that like punching the pope in the face? Ducati are infamous for their belts... Plus I would like to see you slag the japs off when it comes to servicing costs / availability of parts and of course reliability. Never mind the Italians, Honda have the rest of japan quaking in their boots when it comes down to reliability.

So I'll keep my 15K, and put down a deposit on a house instead. Far better investment.

I did exactly 3,000 miles on my 1098S without any hiccup so your argument is flawed, maybe true 10+ years ago but not now.

Just as reliable as any jap bike in my experience.

Good pricing and well worth every penny.

Whoever said Ducati will go bust in 18 months must be a comedian because that was damn hilarious!
