Stay away Direct Access

I'm researching where to do my direct access. A couple of people I know have done their's while staying away from home with a couple of other trainees, which sounds like a bit of fun while doing your training/test.

Does anyone know any trainers that offer this? I live in Windsor, but am prepared to travel a reasonable distance. I do have family/friends in Devon if anyone can reccomend anywhere there or in the south west.

Nice one!

IIRC both Triumph & Harley have training-centre tie-ins, so that might be an interesting 'holiday'!

Why do you want to? What do you think it will give you that you can't get at home*? You won't be having midnight feasts and pillow fights in the dorm. as you'll be swotting up on your homework for the next day.

FWIW, If you've not ridden before, or for any longer distances and times, you'll probably be mentally and physically knackered.

Slightly better than 'shot' - and there's seems to be a queue of VD posters to offer that service at the mo' . . .

What, and waste a bullet when I could stab you in the back?

Um, it's actually because I don't drive, so am weighing up the options of getting dropped off and picked up at the beginning and end of the week, rather than every morning/evening, possibly ride in another part of the country, as well as a possible opportunity to spend some time with family and friends on the weekends prior to, and after my test week.

If anyone has any suggestions, rather than citing old wives tales regarding old horses, I'd appreciate it. Thanks,

Sorry. Look at it positively. It's keeping your thread near the top of the page until someone better turns up to help you.

Thank you for answering my question. At least now I know why you want to do it away from home. I'm surprised there isn't a training school within a bus ride of Windsor. Have you tried googling for riding schools around the area you want? ( or going through the BT website for phone numbers )Maybe you could get one close enough to sponge off the relatives for the entire week. The only residential course I know of is in Blackburn, but I'm sure there must be others somewhere.

Good luck.

BMW course in South Wales. Putting 2 aqnd 2 together I'd guess it is the place where Charlie and Ewan did their offroad training bit - but could be totally wrong on that

Don't know much about it - but email them for the brochure as it has lots of nice pics anyway

I recall you suggesting them when ws first joined us, so he must have decided against them, maybe because there was a poor report about them.

I have heard a couple of bad things regarding them.

I'm currently looking at Lightening Pass in Reading, or Bristol Motorcycle training centre (that one is residential!).

If anyone has any feedback on these please let me know!

There is a chap at Lightning called Will (IIRC) who seemed like a nice bloke and did the pre-test 'warmup' ride with me. I trained at Oxford but I gather he is more often at their Reading branch. Seemed very calm, relaxed and methodical (all in a good way). Have heard bad things about Reading as a test centre though (i.e. bad/inconsistent examiners?) I think a search on SS will dig up the details.

You caould always ring round B and Bs just about anywhere, book a room ,and find a school nearby. Opens the choice up a bit.

I think Horse knows someone at Lightning in Reading. He may have some feedback.
