We asked photographer Dan Lo to capture five moments from the 2012 TT and talk about why he chose them and how they were taken
Governor's Dip | I like to create images where the location is not immediately obvious, giving it a somewhat abstract look. The large dark patch in this photo may not be technically ideal but I don't mind it in this particular case. The distinctive Honda TT Legends livery doesn't hurt either. 200mm, F/8, 1/640s
Guthries | This shot of Ian Hutchinson coming out of Guthries is unique in the sense that I was able to stand literally right at the edge of the road, something that would be more or less impossible on a short circuit track. The colors of his Swan Yamaha machine also go well with the "Reduce Speed Now" sign, the reflector posts, and the green background. 300mm, F/8, 1/1250s
Start Line | Some TT riders like sitting on the curb next to the starting area before practice sessions and races, making for predictable portrait opportunities. Fortunately, Michael Dunlop is one of them. 135mm, F/5, 1/250s
Guthries | The scenery at Guthries is breath-taking, especially on a nice sunny evening as was the case during the first Superstock practice session of 2012. Guy Martin's line through Guthries is ideal for this composition; just close enough to the wall but not so close that he gets lost in the shadows. 10mm, F/8, 1/1600s
Podium | John McGuinness scored his 18th TT victory in the opening Superbike race of 2012. There was no shortage of photographers continuously snapping away during the entire podium ceremony so I opted for a shot of John making his way down the spiral staircase instead. 160mm, F/6.3, 1/800s
