Sepang testing style check

Posted: 2 February 2012
by Robin Goodwin

It may only be the first test session of 2012 but from the times it is clear that everyone is still chasing Casey Stoner.

This corner in particular is infamous for capturing riders sliding the rear, as demonstrated by Valentino Rossi, but on his quest for record-breaking laptimes Stoner has carved it to the next level.

If you look at the pics closely, you will see that moaner is further through the corner than Rossi. Also Rossi is on the course to take the exact same line as moaner, so to say that moaner is next level is a bit of a spurious comment.

Agreed, Rossi has more lean angle anyway.

For me the positive here is that Rossi has good confidence in the new bike & as usual is very smooth and well motivated.

Not sure but is Casey maintaining less lean with more off-bike action, simply 'cos that's his way or because he's being more conservative with his tyres?

I think you will find Casey has the same if not more lean angle than Rossi - the photos are different, in that on Casey's the camera has been tilted. Look at the angle of the tyre marks on the track...
Rossi isn't far off the pace though, it's almost tit for tat. Should make for some actual exciting racing this season :O

Yeah - I'd say they're both at about the same lean angle, but Rossi's still more sideways, and looks to be on the same line. Says to me that Rossi's trying harder.

Agreed, a slightly rushed article
let's lay off the playground names though eh?

I think some of this is due to the size of the rider. Rossi and the bike look to be leaning at the same angle, where as Stoner appears to keep the bike more upright and turn with more of his body hanging off the bike. The reassuring thing appears that Rossi looks a lot more committed and confident leaning into the coreners. For Stoner, business as usual.

They are on completely different lines, just look at the black line being left by Rossi.

@fluke flossi or any other rider other than stoner don't usually go over the rumblestrip. if you watched aragon, silverstone 2011 qualifying u can see stoner riding over the rumblestrip. and saying stoner leans a lot more than any other rider. proof: http://motogpmatters.smugmug.com/MotoGP/2011/MotoGP-2011-Round-5-Catalunya/i-W5hntzT/1/M/T2P1615-M.jpg

It's amazing to watch Rossi's faithful to get their panties in bunch every time there's an article crediting Stoaner. Keep it going it's fun ...

Rossi is sliding more then Stoner - Rossi wants to be sliding less for him to be at te head of the pack.
Seems to me if the pics have a story, its that the honda is more sorted.

Gentlemen! This response is a bit late I know, but I just want to clear something up.

I am not knocking Stoner (sorry I can't help calling him moaner, coz thats all he does when he is off this bike), I am simply stating that the articles comment about him being next level is spurious.

No one is disputing the ozzie dudes talent.
