The weekend at Silverstone was a good affair for the British fans, with Bradley Smith and Redding duking it out for the lead in the early stages of the Moto2 race and Cal Crutchlow putting in the ride of the day by carving through the pack from 20th on the grid to finish sixth with an injured foot.

One of the great moments for me was the thrilling last lap battle between Scott Redding and Marc Marquez for second position on the intermediate class podium.

Marquez was quicker on the straight and able to pass Redding comfortably, but the Gloucester rider was unwilling to give up the second step on the podium and fought back into chicane that makes up Vale, forcibly outbraking the Spaniard.

Marquez then tried to squeeze through at the final corner, but Redding gave the Spaniard a taste of his own medicine and shut the door and lead him across the finish line.

Redding said: "I knew it was going to be a bit of a scrap with Marquez on the last lap and I wasn't wrong. I passed him early, he came back on the straight, so I stuck it up his inside on the brakes. He was struggling with the bike, but he still tried to come back at me in the final corner, but I was having none of it! It was a good, clean fight; a great result and I hope the crowd enjoyed it as much as I did!"
