At Mugello Honda graciously gifted Simoncelli's father Paolo with Marco's RC212V race bike from last season, along with this tribute-livery Honda CBR1000RR in his honour and memory.

Unveiled in a special and emotional ceremony the Fireblade was designed by Aldo Drudi and was inspired by the memorable Super-Sic colours. The bike will be auctioned off on eBay to raise money for the Marco Simoncelli Foundation.

Mugello marked the first Italian round since Simoncelli was tragically killed at Sepang last year.

Perhaps a limited production run, profits to the Marco foundation? I'd definitely buy one.

Sad as Simoncelli's death was, does anyone else feel slightly confused by the rather hypocritical transition from arch villain to saint? Too much of the Senna syndrome has crept into motor sport for my taste, as if tragically dying during the course of a race wipes out all previous sins.

The reason I was a big fan of his before his accident was how he handled himself while it seemed the entire paddock was slating him. It showed huge character, all the while he never backed away from an interview and attempted to make amends with Pedrosa (which he snubbed). It takes a lot of balls to stand up and admit you're at fault and the way many riders pretty much accused him of doing it on purpose was ridiculous.

His "Sins" were that he was a proper racer, he tried things others didn't and sometimes they didn't come off but it also made him exciting to watch. They were mostly down to being a little enthusiastic and inexperienced. He did a lot of growing up after that spell and ironed out many of the tendencies to have silly accidents without losing any of his pace or excitement.

To me the way he handled himself was what stood out. It would have been so easy to just carry on the way he was and be unprofessional towards the criticism which was fired his way, but he knuckled down and became a better rider because of it.

Well said Craig.
That said I wouldn't buy or ride the tribute bike...bad karma.

Dont know what sins you are referring to. He rode like a man with only one thing on his mind and that was to beat the guy in front. He rode the rcv like a 600 super sport, he made a few mistakes but he never whined like Stoner.
