Karel Abraham is now a lawyer

Abraham may be MotoGP's most educated racer

Two days after the MotoGP race at Brno Karel Abraham received a bachelor's degree in law.

When most riders were fully focussed on the race at Brno, Abraham was also studying for his law exams at his home race. The Ducati rider has had a fragmented season in 2012, missing races through injury, but he was able to get a top 10 finish with ninth in the Czech GP.

Abraham, who is now aiming for his Master's, said: “I studied every day, even during the Grand Prix weekend. I think it helped me get rid of some of the stress associated with the race, because I had something completely different to worry about. Now I’m glad to have them both behind me, and that they both worked out okay."

As motorcycle racers dedicate their lives to the sport from a very early age, there are only a small few who are educated. Roberto Rolfo is another, the Italian has studied literature at the University of Turin.

You could say the same about Bradley Smith to be honest

(being in GP that is, not that his Dad is loaded)

I'm sure the money helps, but this chap can still pilot a MotoGP bike and place in the top ten - that's more than I bet most of us could manage!

FYI Robin, a law degree doesn't make someone a lawyer, as I'm sure Karel will tell you. Did you hear the one about the engineer who got sent to hell by mistake ? He installed air-con and fixed the toilets, so St Peter said they'd sue if the engineer wasn't returned to heaven. But he had to back down because Heaven doesn't have any lawyers...

Good for him. I'm sure it will come in useful when he stops racing professionally. I wouldn't hold it against him that his Dad is loaded either. I think poor Dad's are in a small minority in the racing game.

iancp5 hit the nail on the head - racing is a rich mans sport.
Continuing with the Bradley Smith example, I know for a fact that his dads house just outside of oxford cost just shy of £1 million 2 years ago, and Bradley's career cost him £200,000 a year. And these prices are just gonna keep on going up with the crazy oil price rises ;)
