Triumph Sprint ST1050 2006 Full removable hard luggage; ready to tour

£3000.00
2006
29550 miles

I have owned this bike since October 2008. For a large part of that time it was my main form of transport so it has worked hard but equally it has been well looked after (I have receipts since I have owned it for over £2500 for servicing and tyres etc.)
It has done 29550 miles, about 26000 since I have owned it. I have toured France and Italy on it. It has always been stored in a garage. I am a member of the Advanced Institute of Motorists and took my advanced test on it. I rode it every day in all weathers so it is not immaculate; there are areas that show the signs of hard work. I’d have to put dozens of photo’s on to show the condition of everything but I’m confident that I have priced the bike fairly to take this into consideration. It is still a head turner but don’t expect showroom perfection or a bike that has never been used in the rain.
It has a top of the range Meta alarm with vibration sensor and immobiliser with remote. It is datatagged for tracking (registration can be transferred for a small one off fee of about £15).
It has a rear hugger. Full R&G crash bungs fitted to protect the fairing.
It has a full set of luggage including two matching panniers (the locks match the ignition key) they can be locked onto the pannier rails which can also be removed easily if you want the bike to have a more sporty look for the weekend.
The top box is a GIVI 52 litre box which I transferred over from my previous bike so it is a little bashed up but still fully functional, waterproof and lockable. The GIVI adaptor plate can be very easily removed leaving a small neat SW motech rear rack which again means the bike can be simply stripped back to looking more like a sports bike than a tourer. This is one of the truly remarkable things about this bike; it is a truly impressive tourer, comfortable, with a full set of luggage and yet by simply removing the luggage it looks and goes like a stunning sports bike. When touring the lockable luggage is brilliant as you can park up and leave all your belongings safe and secure. If anyone tampers with the bike or luggage it will set the alarm off.
Triumph claim 125bhp from this triple engine, it is thoroughly impressive, torquey and powerful across the range. One of the most enjoyable things about these engines is the sound. The exhaust doesn’t need any aftermarket “cans” or add ons - it just sounds brilliant, without being offensive.

I've put a 12V car charger socket in the lockable glove compartment for charging sat nav or phone. There is a Hella / Powerlet socket behind the left fairing to power your heated vest, run an air compressor, or easily connect a battery maintenance charger.

The computer displays; time, miles per gallon, average miles per gallon, top speed, average speed, trip time, trip mileage and miles before refuel. There is also a fuel gauge.

Heated grips wired properly into Triumph socket to work with ignition only, no flat battery from leaving the grips on.

Spare ignition key – never been used.

At 29181 miles it needed a replacement engine because one of the bolts holding a piston to the conrod sheared. This shouldn’t have happened because there are two bolts holding the conrod and piston together. My mechanic found the second bolt and nut in the sump in mint condition and is confident that the bolt had not been properly torqued on manufacture and had slowly worked its way out causing the remaining bolt to take the strain on its own. By the time the problem arose the bike was out of warranty. The replacement engine was cheaper than fixing the damage to the engine (it cost me £1700 to buy it and have it installed) the new engine had done 8000miles. I have done 350 miles since then and it's running smooth and fine.

My reason for selling: I am a teacher, I started a new job in the summer and I now live on site at the school I work at, so no longer commute to work, I have hardly used the bike since changing job and as I have a young family I’d like to get a campervan instead. If I could afford to, I would keep the bike for holidays and occasional use but unfortunately family takes priority now.

The bike is currently registered SORN. Tax is about £70 for a year. MOT is until August but I have no doubt it will get through the next MOT with no problems.

I have a spare seat which I had considered modifying that I will happily throw in, if you are that way inclined.

Please feel free to ask questions, and I'd be happy for people to come and have a look. Test ride only with the cash on the table.

This bike is an absolute all rounder. It will do anything you want it to on the road. I have had so much pleasure from it and will miss it immensely but I'm sure whoever has it next will love it just as much.
Thanks for looking.
Jon
