IT’S been another amazing year for new bikes and, now we’re reaching the end, the time has come again to pick the best.
In fact, the race to meet Euro 4 emission limits means we’ve seen more new or updated models this year than just about any other time we can remember.
In fact, the categories themselves seem to be shifting. This year we’ve seen the arrival of a whole new class of small-capacity adventure bikes, like Honda’s CRF250 Rally and Suzuki’s V-Strom 250. We weren’t sure for a while whether to add them to our ‘Best Adventure Bike’ category or ‘Best A2 Bike’ category. We opted for the latter because Kawasaki’s outgoing Ninja and Z300 had left some space.
The G310 GS hasn’t made it because it was a late arrival in dealers this year and BMW has not yet given Visordown an opportunity to test it.
As usual, we’ve focused on new models in our shortlist. And as usual, you get to vote for a winner in each category.
We’ve used your votes from last year to guide our choice of bikes to shortlist. So if there’s a bike which you think should be included that isn’t, it may be because it attracted very few reader votes last year.
And remember, these awards are for 2017 models, so all those new 2018 models you’ve just seen at the shows, including a few we’ve already ridden, have to wait until next year.
You have until 5pm on December 15 to vote, after which we’ll announce two winners in every category, one chosen by us, one by you. It might be the same bike; it might not be.
Let’s find out. Please cast away.
